A short selection from "Ghosts of Cherry Street," first book in the "Jack's Justice" series

"Damn!” Legend grumbled, angrily shoving his phone back into his pocket. “The damn battery’s dead. … Sheeeiiit!”

Looking out at the street as he shook out the final few drops. He then zipped up his pants and prepared to head back to Jack’s Tahoe.

He took one long look toward the street to be sure he had not been observed, and then pivoted back toward the huge house directly adjacent to the growth of trees.

Glad that’s done, he thought. I feel much better now.

“What the hell!” he blurted.

Standing in front of him as he turned was a very large man—someone he’d never seen before. But it was not just the man’s presence or size that startled him—it was what the man was holding in his hands. It only took a second—perhaps two at most. But to Legend it seemed to last an eternity.

“Ty Cobb and I have a message for you, jerko,” the man said as he rammed the knob end of a deeply seasoned ash baseball bat into Legend’s stomach. “You got no business spying around my house!”

The blow knocked the wind out of Legend’s lungs and rendered him helpless. He tried to grab the bat as it struck him, but all he ended up with was a tag that was tied to the slender end.

The next blow was delivered to the back of Legend’s neck, its force dropping him face down into the dampness of his own urine.

“Oh!” he muttered as he lie unable to move. What’s

Legend didn’t even see the third blow coming—this one a glancing thunderbolt to the back of his head. While it did not do the sort of damage the attacker intended, it still was sufficiently devastating to knock Legend totally senseless.

The same trees that Legend had intended to guard him from sight while he relieved himself served as cover for the big man as he began to drag Legend by the collar of his jacket toward the nearby house.

This riveting thriller will keep you turning pages all the way to the shocking end. —Cascade Writer's Group. A good read. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and kept coming back to it whenever I had the free time. The characters were really good. Connelly and Baldacci should approve—by Dave on August 10, 2013. If you like James Patterson and Michael Connelly, you'll love Michael Carrier. Carrier has proven that he can hang with the best of them (seriously- we're talking Patterson and Connelly) with his newest book. It has all of the great, edge-of-your-seat action and suspense that you'd expect in a good thriller, and it kept me guessing to the very end. Fantastic read with an awesome detective duo.
